Multi-tenancy example in Microsoft CRM 4.0

Hosting companies can have many customers by using single installation of Microsoft Dynamic CRM 4.0 Enterprise.
I used single CRM installation for three organizations named –DK, USA, UK and USA as default organziaton. I used deployement manager to add further organizations -DK and UK.
We have one MSCRM_CONFIG database and three databases for three organizations.

Now one can view the url of all three organizations.

Wait, how can MS claim this to be a multitennant database? I see 3 distinct databases… Can someone explain?

In the Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0 Enterprise Edition, multiple organisations are supported on a single Microsoft Dynamics CRM Server. This is referred to as multi-tenancy.

    Dear CRM friends,

My organization is using CRM 3.0 Profession for our production and we have another VM server that has multiple organizations for our testing, trainning, and etc..I have a question that it is doable for us to move on to the CRM 4.0 Enterprise to have multiple instances in one server. I would like to make sure that we can upgrade from CRM 3.0 Prof licenses to CRM 4.0 Enterprise licenses.

Can someone advise me for the answer?

    Thank you in advance,

    Hello DJ

You can upgrade your professional to Enterprise edition license while using deployment manager .

when you upgrade from CRM 3.0 to CRM 4.0 then you can add the CRM 4.0 enterprise edition key while running setup.

    Thank you Aamir,

It’s good to hear the answer from you.

So it sounds like there is only one CRM 4.0 installation program/CD and it will be separated the editions by the key???

I heard that to get the CRM 4.0 Enterprise license, we have to have a CRM 4.0 Certification, correct?

If so, I’m planning to set up a new server that will have my CRM 3.0 Prof with my customization and all custom programs on this box. Then I will upgrade it to CRM4.0 to make sure that the customization and all custom programs work perfectly. Once I get the Enterprise license key, I can put it in and create another CRM instance to it.

If I’m missing something or misunderstood anything, please advise me.

    Hi DJ,

    1. You did not heard correctly . You do not need to have crm certification to have the key but you need to have Money :).

this is trial version with Trial version key for Enterprise edition.

    2. CRM 4.0 pro and Enterprise edition are on same code bease the only difference is Key.

    3. Thats good idea. If you moved SQL where you have CRM databases then you need to move SQL jobs related to the CRM.
